Why bother with FileHippo?

Nearly every piece of software that you recommend can be downloaded from the manufacturer's own website.

No need to risk a download from FileHippo. It's akin to taking your Mustang to a Toyota dealership 20 miles away when the Ford dealer is around the corner from your house.

One of the essential keys to "safe computing" is to simplify processes and remove as many unknowns as possible.

It isn't worth the space that it takes up on your hard drive.

If appearing protected is more important than actually being protected, then carry on as you were.

Otherwise...

Save some cash, grab some real protection software for free, install it, then clean your machine.

To name a few....
*Microsoft Security Essentials
*Avira
*AVG

Solution:

1.) Uninstall "CA/Yahoo Antispy"

2.) Install real protection software

Pick one of your choosing....

*Microsoft Security Essentials - It's Free
*Avira (The free version)
*AVG (The free version)

TIP: Always download from the manufacturer's web site when possible. If the downloads are at an off-site file location, (such as http://www.download.com), the maunfacturer's website will properly link or direct you to the right place.

the internet, by it's very nature, is insecure.

frequently, attempts to remove vulnerabilities expose others that can be worse than the one that was being eliminated.

the constant updates and hotfixes are enough to make you feel like the proverbial "little dutch-boy" plugging never-ending holes in a dam.

in the beginning, the "internet" was only available to institutions of higher learning, governmental research facilities and the science corps.

there was no need to worry about security, hackers, malware, phishing, spam and the myriad of other issues that today's user faces.

it's well past time that the internet and the way we interact with it, received a complete overhaul.

until the powers that be face the truth, "redesign the TCP Stack and the way computers communicate, from the ground up" we're going to end up needing terabyte drives just to hold the hotfixes.

I don't think you have to reformat your laptop. Windows live.exe is started automatically from a Run, RunOnce, RunServices, or RunServicesOnce entry in the registry, thus disabling it whether using "msconfig" or "hijackthis" should allow you to proceed and fix this problem.

Hello,
I have recently upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and have never had a problem with spyware before. I have Norton Internet Security 2009 and Adaware installed on my computer and both have given it a clean bill of health. However, whenever I run CA Yahoo anti-spy I'm told that my computer has been infected by the above named trojan. It seems to be quite an old one that was doing the rounds in 2004. Anti-spy won't remove it due to administrative rights so does anybody know how to get rid of this spyware? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul

32bit Vista will run just fine on a 64bit processor.
32bit Vista is limited to 3gb of useable memory. (If you see it with 4gb of memory, that's the tipoff that the memory is "shared" with an onboard video card...onboard video is not what you want, trust me.)
32bit applications cannot make full use of the 64bit or multi-core processor's power.

*64bit Vista has no theoretical memory limit. (Toss 8gb of fast memory on top of a Core I7 Extreme w/ dual 1gb NVidia Vids add a decent mainboard and you'll own the gaming rooms.)

Developers are finally updating applications to take advantage of the 64bit platform, multi-threading models and multi-core processors.

Unfortunately, by the time they catch-up we will all be running a 128bit OS.
